A week of joint practices culminates in the meeting between the Eagles and New England Patriots.
For the Eagles, the second preseason game is about putting the first game way in the past. It was a rather forgettable preseason debut for many Eagles.
Nick Foles is the Eagle possibly looking for the most redemption. His two first-quarter interceptions created a lot of talk and Foles admitted it was a pretty low place to be in the first game action of the season.
Foles is playing in the midst of a struggle in the wide receiver group. The Eagles receivers have been batters this preseason and once again, Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper – the two expected starters – will miss a preseason game.
In the meantime, it's important to watch rookie receivers Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff. Huff made an impact last week with a kick-return touchdown that opened eyes. Matthews was inconsistent in his first game.
Defensively, the Eagles coughed up a lead in the third quarter against the Bears due in large part to a leaky secondary. While it was mainly the second and third-string allowing the damage, seeing familiar points of the Eagles struggles is never a good thing.
Week 2 is once again about seeing who can make an impact and get noticed. As the weeks pile up, it's about separating from the pack and being a standout. There is potential all around for that, even from the expected starters.
Injury Report: The Eagles injury report currently features a similar rotation to practices. Cooper and Maclin are out tonight as is Chris Polk and Jake Knott. Casey Matthews and Matthew Tucker are also likely out. Julian Vandervelde, Nolan Carroll, Jaylen Watkins and David Fluellen also are out.
