By Gia Lanci, Sports Talk Philly Staff Preview: Eagles Host Giants

The Eagles will play a divisional matchup against the Giants. This is the second time this season they will play their New York rivals. The Eagles are coming off a tough loss against the New Orleans Saints and are on a two game losing streak. There needs to be big changes made for them to compete in the division for a chance at the play-offs.

A Gruesome Loss

The Saints have the best offense in the NFL right now, and they proved it when they scored 48 points. The Eagles could not compete with them from the beginning to the end of the game.

The offense could not get points on the board. They were only able to get one touchdown and that was ran in by last week’s MVP, Josh Adams. Carson Wentz had the worst game of his career, throwing three interceptions and taking four sacks.

The defense could not hold back the unstoppable Saints offense. They did not get to Drew Brees to sack him once the entire game. They had no interceptions or really any good plays. There are many injuries going on with the secondary and that is a huge problem for the defense. The defensive leaders on the team need to step up and get back to the way the defense was running last season.

Week Six Victory

In week six, the Eagles played the Giants and won 34-13. It was a game that was dominated by the Eagles. However, you cannot rule divisional games out. Saquon Barkley was able to run all over the Eagles defense in that game and Odell Beckham was also able to make some plays. Since the secondary has so many injuries, preparing the backups for those two offensive powerhouses is important going into this game. It should be managed by the Eagles again, but this team is on a losing streak and you can never be too sure.

The Giants

Last week, the Giants beat the Buccaneers in a close game. They won the last two weeks in close games. The Buccaneers managed a ton of offense against the Giants, putting up a combined 510 yards of offense in the game, but four interceptions at key moments allowed the Giants to seal the victory.

Injury Report

Eagles

Out

CB Jalen Mills, Sidney Jones, Avonte Maddox

The secondary is really messed up. None of them practiced all week. The secondary really needs someone back to make consistent plays and be leaders for the new secondary. Mills is out with a foot injury, Sidney Jones is out with a hamstring injury, and Maddox is out with a knee injury.

LB Jordan Hicks

Hicks was injured last week against the Saints. He is ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Giants with a calf injury. Nathan Gerry and LaRoy Reynolds will fill in for Hicks. He is a huge part of the defense and currently leads the team in tackles (58). There will be a big hole to fill with his absence.

RB Darren Sproles

Sproles will miss his 11th straight game. It is fair to wonder why he continues to occupy a spot on the 53-man roster, especially with the shortage of DBs.

Questionable

CB Rasul Douglas

Douglas did not practice this week, however, he was said to be questionable for Sunday. Hopefully, he will be able to play because the secondary needs all the help that they can get. He has also made some good plays this season, so it would be great for him to get out there and help a cornerback room that would otherwise consist of three guys who were not on the roster just a few weeks ago.

Giants

Out

DE Kerry Wynn

Wynn is out with a concussion that he suffered in the game against the Buccaneers last week. He is a pretty key rotational lineman for the Giants, much like Chris Long for the Eagles. Their defense is not top shelf and Wynn being out will make it easier for the offense to run the ball, and maybe even for Carson to get to the outside as well.
