The Eagles will play a game against the Washington Redskins. The Eagles are coming off a big win against the Houston Texans. The Eagles only chance of getting into the playoffs is if they beat the Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings lose. There is a chance even if they win this game this Sunday, they still won’t make playoffs because the Bears must beat the Vikings.
Underdogs
The Eagles have won four out of the last five games. Most games they have gone into being the underdogs. This is good for them as it makes them work harder and play smarter. They beat the Texans at the end of the game. The team has played well with Nick Foles at quarterback. The play calling has improved immensely. They changed it around for Nick Foles to make him comfortable, and it has been successful. They also have been including a better variety of players, which also works for this offense.
The offense will be challenged against the Redskins defense. The Redskins defense is what has kept them afloat, but it is a good match-up for the Eagles offensive line. The Redskins defense has gotten 43 tackles this season, which is the sixth best in the league. The protection by the offensive line will be the biggest challenge for the offense.
The Redskins recently cut a safety, D.J. Swearinger, because of the comments he made about a member of the coaching staff. So they will be down a first-string safety. He had 42 tackles and four interceptions recorded in the 2018 season. This is something the Eagles should take advantage on Sunday. Throwing deep passes into the secondary is a way to do that, which has worked for Foles a few times this season. Definitely getting into the secondary is something the offense should exploit.
An Injured Offense
The Redskins have so many injuries right now, especially on offense. They are now on their fourth quarterback, Josh Johnson. Josh Johnson is mobile however, he is very old and is restricted passing wise.
On another note, their offensive line is very distraught. Some of their guards are seventh and eighth string, and their tackles are injured, too. The Eagles should tear them apart because of how demolished they are. Since Johnson has not played actual football since 2011, it should be easy to take advantage of him and put immense pressure on him.
Eagles Defense
The defense has gotten by but there needs to be some changes. The defense has allowed seven points in the first and third quarters and then 46 points in the second and fourth quarters. They need to make better adjustments. They start strong and then get beat up before halftime adjustments. Last week, there was not enough pressure on the quarterback, who is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the NFL. He scored two touchdowns against the Eagles defensive line, who should be considered a top defensive line.
