The effort was there and it was another game for the taking for the Eagles. But once again, key mistakes at critical moments played into the end result.
The Eagles took a one-point lead in the middle of the fourth quarter, but a late touchdown by the Redskins put them on top inside the two-minute warning. The Eagles managed to get the ball deep into Washington territory, but a sack and fumble on Carson Wentz created the turnover that ended the game, with the Eagles dropping their fourth straight, 27-22, to the Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
Scoring Summary

Redskins | 0 | 7 | 14 | 6 | 27 |
Eagles | 3 | 10 | 0 | 9 | 22 |
The Eagles first few drives were solid, but ended with minimal success. Their first went inside the red zone, but stalled, leading to a 45-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis.
The Eagles second drive moved into the red zone and down to the Redskins three. Wentz threw an interception to D. Everett, his 12th of the season.
The Redskins moved downfield on their second drive, attempting a 38-yard field goal that hit the left upright and missed.
The Eagles followed with a 10-play, 53-yard drive that ended with a 36-yard field goal by Sturgis.
Washington responded with a touchdown drive, moving 69 yards on 10 plays capped by a 22-yard touchdown run by Robert Kelley, giving the Redskins a 7-6 lead.
The Eagles had a response of their own, closing the half with a 12-play, 77-yard drive that ended with four-yard touchdown pass from Wentz to Darren Sproles to give the Eagles the lead at the half.
Washington's second drive of the second half put them in front. It took just two plays, as Kirk Cousins stepped back and fired the home run pass to DeSean Jackson, who made the catch and took it the rest of the way for an 80-yard touchdown.
The Eagles had a chance to take the lead on their next drive, getting into Redskins territory and lining up for a field-goal attempt. However, with long snapper Jon Dorenbos out of the game with an injury, it left Brent Celek to snap the ball. His snap to Donnie Jones was botched, and the Redskins were able to pounce on Jones to force the turnover on downs. Six plays later, the Redskins were back in the endzone on a 15-yard pass from Cousins to Pierre Garcon to take an eight-point lead.
After a three-and-out that appeared to be the end of the Eagles, Leodis McKelvin stepped in front of Jackson to make an interception and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles failed to convert on the two-point conversion, leaving the margin at two.
The Eagles would get the ball back by forcing the Redskins to punt, and on the punt, the powder keg exploded. A hit to the head of Sproles before the ball reached him on the return sent Sproles to the ground hard and led to a huge scrum between the two teams.
On the ensuing drive, the Eagles moved 37 yards on 11 plays, having to go for it on fourth down once due to the lack of a long snapper with Celek out with a stinger and Dorenbos still not back either. Facing another fourth-down situation in field goal range, Trey Burton came in as the long snapper and he was able to get the ball to Jones and Sturgis hit his third field goal of the day from 41 yards to give the Eagles the lead.
The Redskins came back with an eight-play, 77-yard touchdown drive to take the lead, which included a fourth-down conversion. The drive was capped with a 25-yard touchdown run by Chris Thompson on the first play after the two-minute warning.
The Eagles moved the ball into the red zone, down to the Washington 14-yard line with under 30 seconds to play. But on 2nd and 10 from the 14, Ryan Kerrigan sacked Wentz and forced a fumble, which the Redskins recovered to seal the win for Washington.
