UPDATE: The Dolphins have officially hired Adam Gase, signing him to a five-year deal as head coach. They will introduce him at a 3 p.m. press conference.
By Saturday night, you can likely take one name off of the Eagles coaching list.
According to a report from Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins are meeting with Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase on Saturday with intentions of negotiating and finalize a deal that will make him head coach by the end of the day.
The Dolphins were supposed to meet with Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia on Saturday, but have also cancelled that interview.
Gase interviewed with the Eagles on Tuesday and was rumored to have a second interview on Saturday, but that report was squashed, particularly as the Dolphins increased efforts to complete the hiring process.
The Eagles, who have interviewed four other candidates and still have two more to go on Sunday with Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson and Monday with former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, are diligently going about the process and had said when debunking the rumors of Gase's second interview that they were going to complete the first round of interviews before going back to previous candidates.
Looks like their diligence will cost them one of the highly-touted names on the market this offseason.
