The Philadelphia 76ers added Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 overall pick in last week's NBA Draft and there will plenty of rumors swirling and trades made leading up to the draft and even now afterwards. One report has surfaced out of regarding star forward Carmelo Anthony and the Philadelphia 76ers. According to the New York Daily News, the Knicks forward was interested in leaving the Big Apple and had considered accepting a trade that would send him to either Philadelphia or Washington.
According to a person familiar with Anthony's thinking, Carmelo is no longer enamored with playing in Los Angeles if it means having to be away from his son for an extended period of time.
Anthony, according to the same source, was toying with the idea of orchestrating a move to either Philadelphia or Washington, which would keep him close to New York. However, Anthony's mindset now is to stay in New York and play for the Knicks… even though Jackson doesn't want him.
Anthony, 33, averaged 22.4 points and 5.9 rebounds this past season, a year that saw the Knicks go 31-51. The front office situation in New York is a bit of a mess right now, with Phil Jackson and company trying to pick up the pieces of an organization spiraling downhill.
Although Anthony is planning to stay in New York at the moment, the Knicks could buy out his contract as well, but he's owed $54 million over the next two seasons. The Knicks would owe him another $8 million if he was traded.
