The biggest name left for the Sixers to sign after inking Joel Embiid to a max extension is young three-and-D wing Robert Covington.
Covington, 26, went undrafted out of Tennessee State and has been a soldier of the process since being added to the roster on November 15, 2014.
In a piece by David Aldridge of TNT, it is mentioned that "there’s an extension for Robert Covington that’s all but completed."
Covington cannot officially be signed to a contract extension until November 15, 2017 – three years after his current contract was signed. No valuation or length was mentioned for Covington's impending extension.
Against all odds Covington has become a valued NBA player out of the ashes of the 76ers rebuild with a picture perfect shooting stroke and above average defensive capabilities.
Last season Covington led all players in deflections created with 4.2 per game and finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year Voting, albeit only getting one second place vote and one third place vote.
Covington averaged 12.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.9 steals in 31.6 minutes a night across 67 games.
Aldridge also mentioned that the deals for Embiid and Covington will likely result in Nik Stauskas testing the market this summer. Stauskas is a restricted free agent this offseason and the Sixers can elect to match any offer that he may receive.
