The Philadelphia Eagles dethroned the undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but the receiving corps around Carson Wentz still lacks a whole lot. Although Jordan Matthews has looked good and Dorial Green-Beckham has shown some strong signs, the team still isn’t getting much from Nelson Agholor and even Zach Ertz. With the trade deadline approaching on November 1, the Eagles are reportedly discussing a trade with the 49ers involving 27-year-old wideout Torrey Smith, according to Pro Football Talk.
The Eagles and 49ers are discussing a trade involving wide receiver Torrey Smith, multiple sources told PFT.
No deal is imminent, but the Eagles potentially acquiring Smith makes sense. He’s been disappointing while playing on bad offenses in two seasons with the 49ers, and the Eagles would love to bolster their receiving corps for a run at the NFC East title.
Although Smith has not been the receiver he once was with the Ravens, he hasn’t been in an ideal offense with San Francisco either. Since joining the 49ers last season he only has six touchdowns, but has 36 across his six-year career. Smith had over 1,110 yards in 2013 with the Ravens and scored 11 touchdowns in 2014. This season, he has 13 catches for 199 yards and two scores for the 1-6 49ers under Chip Kelly.
The asking price has yet to be determined, but a guy like Nelson Agholor could be involved in discussions. Since being drafted by the Eagles, he hasn’t lived up to his first round hype and a change of scenery could be beneficial for both receivers.
Smith is in the second year of a five-year, $40 million contract with the 49ers with $22 million guaranteed. The deal holds a cap hit of $9.6 million over the next three seasons. If the Eagles find a way to acquire Smith, they would put themselves in a better position to win the NFC East.
