With final cuts looming Saturday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles appear to be attempting to acquire something in return for cornerback/safety Eric Rowe.
According to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ Advance Media, the team is attempting to trade Rowe and has been doing so for some time.
According to a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity, the Eagles are shopping cornerback Eric Rowe.
A personnel member from another organization in the NFC, speaking on condition of anonymity, told NJ Advance Media that the Eagles have been trying to trade Rowe for most of training camp.
Rowe, 23, was a 2015 second round pick out of Utah. While Chip Kelly and Billy Davis' Eagles played him at corner in his rookie season, he seems to lack the speed to play in Jim Schwartz's defense as a cornerback and the team is set at safety with the duo of Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod locked into the two starting spots.
Presumably, the Eagles will look to add either a wide receiver or offensive line depth in a trade of Rowe, though if the team has been trying to trade him for over a month, that would seem to cast doubt on how much value he actually has. In a perfect world, the Eagles could target someone like Kenny Stills of the Miami Dolphins, though they would need to move more than just Rowe in a trade like that and are thin on draft picks after trading up for Carson Wentz in this past NFL Draft.
If the team were to trade Rowe, it would seem to allow them to keep both Jaylen Watkins and C.J. Smith in the secondary.
