The Eagles signed Sam Bradford to a contract then brought in Chase Daniel to back him up. That hasn't kept Doug Pederson and the Eagles from potentiallyt getting another quarterback that could possiblly lead the team forward in the future. Philadelphia currently has the 8th overall pick in the draft, but according to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, the Eagles are focusing on how they can make a deal to move up to land Carson Wentz.
Make no mistake about it, I still think the Eagles first and foremost are trying to find a way to get Carson Wentz," Zierlein said. "I know Doug Pederson loves him. I know that from people behind the scenes, in the know. That's who he wants and that's who he likes. It's just going to be tough." [NJ.com]
These reports clearly indicate that despite signing two quarterbacks to a combined $34 million worth of contracts, the Eagles want to get a top young guy in the draft to develop into their starter of the future. Wentz could go anywhere 2nd to 8th in the draft, so in order to make sure they get them, they'd need to come up with a nice package for either of the top teams in the draft. The Eagles met with Wentz back at the Senior Bowl in January and then Jeffrey Lurie, along with other team representatives, met with him in North Dakota in late March for a private workout and dinner.
Last season with NDSU, Wentz completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 5,115 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions. The 2016 NFL draft will take place April 28th-30th at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, Illinois.
