Eagles kicker Alex Henery had a down year in 2013.  With just an 82.1 field goal percentage last season, Henery ranked 22nd in the league among kickers.  The down year caused many Eagles fans to be down on Henery.  However, a report this morning says that Henery will be sticking around.

Dave Mangels of Bleeding Green Nation reports:

Alex Henery has been signed to a 5 year, $15.5M contract extension through 2018 with $6M guaranteed, an exclusive source tells BGN.

Prior to the 2013 season, Henery was one of the more accurate kickers in the league.

Re-signing Henery to a long term contract clearly indicates the Eagles feel his 2013 season was an outlier.

Mangels also notes that Henery's kickoff length dropped dramatically from 2011 and 2012 in 2013.

Reactions to the report from fans on Twitter were not too positive:

Could this be an April Fool's joke?   Looking at free agent kicker options, only former Eagle David Akers and Tampa Bay's Rian Lindell remain among unrestricted free agents.   If the Eagles feel that they wish to use their draft picks to address other needs, re-signing Henery may have been the best option.

UPDATE: Yes, this is an April Fool's joke and we decided to play along.  Not a joke: the lack of kicker depth out there.
