REPORT: Eagles want Nolan Carroll to test free-agency

After agreeing in principle to trade Byron Maxwell on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles have become dangerously thin at cornerback. Eric Rowe, it would appear, will stay at cornerback, and while the team will get back promising nickel corner JaCorey Shepherd, they seem to lack two other cornerbacks capable of starting.

According to Tim McManus of Birds 24/7, the Eagles have talked to impending free-agent Nolan Carroll's representatives, though it doesn't appear the sides are close to a new deal.

The Eagles and Nolan Carroll aren’t on the same page numbers wise at the moment. Howie Roseman and company want him to test the market, per a source, to see if it matches up with Carroll’s valuation. At least one NFC East team is said to be interested. Seems like there is still a chance he returns to Philly, but they’ll have to find some middle ground.

2015 was Carroll's second season with the Eagles, after he served almost exclusively as their dime linebacker in 2014. Carroll started the first 11 games of the season, often out-performing Maxwell. However, after a successful run in the first nine games, Carroll was targeted on three of the five touchdown passes from Jameis Winston in the Eagles' 45-17 week 10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In week 11, another eventual blow-out loss, Carroll suffered a season-ending broken ankle in the first half.

As of noon yesterday, Carroll's representatives were able to begin to field calls from other teams and even negotiate a potential deal as part of the league's "legal tampering window". Carroll, and any impending free-agent, can agree a deal with a team other than the team they most recently played for at 4 p.m. Wednesday, when free-agency officially starts.
