In addition to the news of a new GM on Monday, the Flyers appear to have made another addition.
According to a report from Brad E. Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald, Rick Wilson will join the Flyers coaching staff as an assistant coach under Dave Hakstol.
Wilson, 68, had retired from coaching after 30 years behind the bench, but will apparently come out of retirement.
Wilson would replace Gord Murphy, the assistant who oversaw the Flyers defensive group. Wilson has served as an assistant coach for the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues in his career and had a brief stint as the head coach of the Dallas Stars in 2001-02. Wilson also played four seasons in the NHL from 1973 to 1977 and played college hockey at North Dakota.
How long Wilson is a part of the staff remains to be seen. New GM Chuck Fletcher will ultimately have the say over the coaching staff, but acknowledged on Monday that he will take some time to observe the situation before making any decisions.
