Report: Flyers Working Hard to Sign Ivan Provorov Today
By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor
It is the eve of on-ice activity at training camp. All of the Flyers have reported to Voorhees. All except the two restricted free agents that have been talked about all offseason.
The long journey to new contracts for both may be over soon, for one of them in particular. According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Flyers are working hard to get defenseman Ivan Provorov signed today. McKenzie also reports that there are three-year and six-year deals on the table.
Negotiations have picked up between the Flyers and Provorov following Zach Werenski’s signing earlier this week in addition to the deadline of camp starting on Friday. Provorov is in town and ready to report to camp once the contract is officially signed.
McKenzie also offered an update on Travis Konecny. While talks have intensified with Provorov, McKenzie reported that the Flyers and Konecny are not close to a deal. Konecny has spent the offseason training in Ontario and remains there.
The Flyers have approximately $13.4 million in cap space available with Provorov and Konecny still left to sign as well as emergency space for any call-ups or prospects making the jump to the NHL.
More to come on this as updates are available.
