As the Sixers continue to push towards a resolution in the Bryan Colangelo Twitter saga that has stretched nearly one week since the news initially broke in The Ringer last Tuesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier Monday that the Sixers had hired the law firm of Paul/Weiss to conduct the investigation.
According to Woj, the Sixers are hoping for a resolution sometime early this week.
The investigation has increasingly focused on Colangelo's wife as the author of a barrage of incendiary and revelatory tweets centered on Sixers players' personal lives and injuries, along with proposed trades, former employees and rival league executives — as well as praise for Colangelo.
An angry, embarrassed Sixers ownership group has been discussing the possibility of firing Colangelo, sources said. The Sixers are pushing for a resolution as soon as early this week.
On Monday evening, Wojnarowski appeared on SportsCenter to discuss further details on the investigation process, as the Sixers attempt to come to a resolution in the near future.
"Both Colangelo and his wife will be interviewed separately in this probe," Wojnarowski said. "The Sixers want to get a resolution sooner than later."
As part of the in-depth investigation into the Sixers' GM Colangelo and the ties to his five alleged burner Twitter accounts, the Paul/Weiss law firm plans on using cyberintelligence consultants to assist them. According to Woj, this situation with the Sixers is very similar to when the NBA Players Association hired Paul/Weiss "to deliver a special report on the business practices of former executive director Billy Hunter in 2013.
Time will tell whether or not the Sixers will be able to come up with a conclusion, proving that either Colangelo and/or wife Barbara Bottini operated the Twitter accounts, but we'll see what will happen going from here.
