As the Sixers continue try to get Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor to co-exist, one of their other big men is reportedly moving forward in his recovery. That's right. Sources tell Tom Moore of Calkins Media that the Sixers first round pick from 2014 was in the capital of Qatar at one of the best orthopedic and sports medicine hospital in the world.
Embiid was in Doha, which is the capital of Qatar, consulting and rehabilitating his twice surgically repaired right foot at Aspetar, which bills itself as "the world's leading specialized orthopedic and sports medicine hospital."
Embiid traveled to Qatar, which is in the Persian Gulf, over the weekend and is expected to remain there for a few more days, according to a second NBA source that confirmed the first source's report.
The source called this a "previously scheduled" trip at a facility the organization had investigated for roughly six months and referred to it as "a kick-start to the next phase" of Embiid's rehab.
Moore's source emphasized that Embiid has not suffered any setbacks after the second operation and will be seen by multiple specialists during his stay that includes training as well.
The Sixers had anticipated that Embiid would be able to play last summer, but he underwent multiple setbacks and never got to the scrimmaging stage and had his second surgery in August.
In one season at Kansas, Embiid averaged 11.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
