Report: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is “easily attainable” in trade

Report: Chase Utley is "easily attainable"

The Phillies rebuild did not go too far; the team moved in trade shortstop Jimmy Rollins, outfielder Marlon Byrd, and pitcher Antonio Bastardo. Among the old guard, first baseman Ryan Howard and second baseman Chase Utley remain. Moving Howard is something the Phillies have tried and we are well aware. But what about Utley?

Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports that Utley is very much available:

"Hear Chase Utley is easily attainable if you're willing to take on contract, which is an issue because of the money and defensive concerns.

"Utley making $10M this year, followed by three straight $15M options that vest with 500 plate appearances each prior season.

"Not sure that makes a lot of sense for #Angels, who'll likely give current 2B group a shot and look for something in June/July.

"On Utley, as some have said: He has 10/5 rights that allow him to block trade, but has said he'll listen. And winning is always a big draw."

Gonzalez covers the Angels for MLB.com. After trading Howie Kendrick to the Dodgers, the Angels were planning to use young players at the position. If they fail to impress, Utley could be an option.

The Phillies faced the Toronto Blue Jays today, another team that could use a second baseman. Of course, Utley could help a team at first base or designated hitter as well.
