Report: Redskins plan to pursue Bennie Logan if he hits free agency

The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of holes to fill this offseason and are working on evaluating their current roster to see who stays and who goes. One of those players is defensive tackle Bennie Logan. The 27-year-old just finished his fourth season with the birds and if the Eagles don't resign him before March 9, he'll hit free agency, where another NFC East team might be ready to make their move. According to Mark Eckel of NJ.com, the Washington Redskins plan to pursue Logan in free agency if he's available.

According to a person with knowledge of the Washington Redskins' plan, the Redskins will target Logan if he hits the open market.

The person requested anonymity from NJ Advance Media because he was not authorized to speak on the subject.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Eagles will use some of their $11 million in cap space to resign Logan, but if they don't, the team still has capable backups in Beau Allen and Destiny Vaeao. We're about six weeks away from the start of free agency, so Howie Roseman and the rest of the front office still have time to work out a deal if they so please. Logan indicated that he'd like to return to the Eagles, where he's made friendships with his line-mates.

“I’ve been around here for four years,” Logan said on Dec. 28. “I have a connection with these guys. I enjoy playing next to Fletcher (Cox), Brandon Graham, Connor Barwin, just the relationships we have, man.

“Trying to start over and do something new, is something I’m not looking forward to. Because I enjoy being here, the city and everything. This is where I see myself at.”

Last season for Philadelphia, Logan finished with 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He was selected in the 3rd round, 67th overall, in the 2013 NFL Draft out of LSU. He's shown the versatility to play in a 3-4 or 4-3 defensive scheme, making him a valuable commodity on the free agent market.
