According to a report by Howard Eskin of CBS Philly, the Philadelphia Eagles attempted to sign quarterback Sam Bradford to a short-term contract extension before the start of the 2015 NFL regular season.
Eskin notes that the deal was a four-year contract worth $18 million per year.
The Eagles and Bradford were discussing a contract extension during training camp. According to the report, Bradford's agent rejected to negotiate a short-term deal in hopes that Bradford can land a long-term deal after a strong preseason performance.
If Eskin's report is factual, the Eagles may be fortunate that Bradford declined to sign the contract. Through seven games this season, Bradford is ranked 32nd in terms of quarterback rating and total QBR.
The Eagles traded away Nick Foles and a second round pick in order to get Bradford.
At least one NFL general manager suggests that the Eagles won't re-sign Bradford, who becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
