Report: Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux in ‘big falling out’

It may not necessarily be Flyers news, but Flyers fans still may appreciate it.

Rumor has it that Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby and owner/franchise icon/the only reason that team ever had fans in the first place Mario Lemieux have engaged in a significant falling out. SiriusXM's Matthew Barnaby reported the potential rift on Wednesday:

“The more I looked into it, the more I found out people with the same sentiments: that there’s a big falling out between Mario and Crosby. Whether that pushes them to move (Crosby) at some point, whether he wants to move, that I don’t know.

"I've heard over coaching, I've heard also after the [2014] playoffs when they lost out. Maybe the personnel isn't right."

Through 20 games this season, Crosby has three goals and 11 points — the worst totals at this point of his career. The Penguins currently sit third in the Metropolitan Division with a 12-8-0 record, yet are still failing to live up to the expectations that came with trading for Phil Kessel in one of the offseason's biggest moves.

At this point, rumors of a Crosby/Lemiuex feud are just that. But these are exactly the kinds of rumors that big-impact stars should be steering away from, and they don't do any favors in an already-tumultuous season.

On the plus side though, it gives Flyers fans more material to rip Crosby with when the Penguins visit the Wells Fargo Center in March. There's never a bad reason to boo Sidney Crosby.
