Report: Sixers have offered ‘packages of picks’ to move up in draft

By Brandon Apter, Sports Talk Philly Staff

The 2018 NBA Draft is set for Thursday night and there are a ton of stories and reports about teams wanting to move up, move down or even shed contracts via trade. The Philadelphia 76ers, entering the important part of the offseason without a GM, have been rumored to be thinking about trading up in the draft. According to Sports Illustrated's Jake Fischer, the Sixers have made some offers to move up, but have not included any current players on the roster in those offers.

Both Covington and Saric have been the center of speculated trade talks recently with fans hoping a combination of Dario, one of Fultz/Covington and picks could land Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard.

Jeremy Woo, also of Sports Illustrated, in his most recent mock draft has the Sixers selecting Villanova's Mikal Bridges with the No. 10 pick, but added this regarding the organization attempting to move up.

There’s been talk going around that the Sixers are trying to trade up from this spot and are targeting a player in the top five, but it’s unclear which prospect they’d view as enough of a fit with their current core. Without a top executive in place calling the shots, it would still be a bit of a surprise to see Philadelphia do anything drastic.

Woo has Philadelphia picking Western Kentucky big man Mitchell Robinson at No. 26, 18-year-old Slovenian guard Issuf Sanon at No. 39 and Iceland-native Tryggvi Hlinason with the 60th pick.

Philadelphia currently owns two first-round picks (10, 26) and four second-round picks (38, 39, 56, 60). With the team's limited roster space barring a trade to free up spots, if they hang on to their second-round picks, they will almost definitely be stash prospects. Expect them to trade some of their second-round picks for future second-rounders as well.

Coverage of the 2018 NBA Draft begins at 7:00 p.m. from Brooklyn, NY on Thursday night. It will be televised on ESPN.
