The Philadelphia 76ers enter the 2016-17 season with three point guards in Jerryd Bayless, Sergio Rodriguez and T.J. McConnell, but that hasn't stopped them from looking to acquire more depth at the position. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Sixers are one of a few teams interested in 2016 Summer League MVP, Tyus Jones.
Several teams – including Philadelphia and New Orleans – have shown interest in point guard Tyus Jones, 20, whom the Wolves are more open to moving in the short term, league sources said. Thibodeau has used non-guaranteed veteran John Lucas III – a 33-year-old whom he brought back to his roster several times with the Chicago Bulls – in the preseason point-guard rotation.
Jones was selected 24th overall by the Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Draft, but was immediately dealt to Minnesota in exchange for two 2015 second round picks. The former Duke guard had a lackluster first season with the Wolves, averaging just 4.2 points and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 35.9 percent from the floor.
He turned some heads during this year's Summer League en route to winning the Most Valuable Player award. He played in seven games for Minnesota and averaged 19.4 points per game on 45.7 percent shooting to go along with 6.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds. His best game came on July 17, when he scored 29 points on 9-for-17 shooting while also dishing out six assists and grabbing three rebounds.
In four preseason games, Jones has averaged 5.3 points on 50 percent shooting. He and current Sixers center Jahlil Okafor were teammates at Duke.
