Report: Sixers leaning towards selecting Ben Simmons first overall

On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers hit lottery gold and will select first overall on June 23 at the 2016 NBA Draft. This morning, it seems the Sixers are leaning towards selected LSU forward Ben Simmons with their pick, league sources tell NBA senior writer Kevin Ding of the Bleacher Report.

The Philadelphia 76ers are leaning heavily toward taking Simmons, according to league sources, with the No. 1 overall pick they landed in the NBA draft lottery Tuesday night.

The Sixers own two picks in addition to first overall in the draft and will select 24th and 26th as well. Those picks came from the Heat and the Thunder.

Simmons is the better overall prospect with elite passing skills, while Ingram's more of the pure shooter. LSU's Ben Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this past season while Duke's Brandon Ingram 17.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Despite concerns about his shooting, Simmons shot 56 percent from the floor, mainly with shots in the post and dunks. Simmons' is the first college player since Ron Harper in 1988 to average 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in college.

NBA great Magic Johnson weighed in on Simmons last night on Twitter before the lottery.

Although the Sixers are stacked with big men as is, Simmons is the best player with the best tools in the draft. With a couple of adjustments to his shot, he could become an extremely valuable asset to the Sixers and one of the more dominant players in the league.
