In Monday afternoon's shutout loss to the Mets, one of the bright spots was Ben Revere's defense. In the fifth inning, Curtis Granderson smacked a liner to left, slicing away from Revere, but the Phillies left-fielder laid out to make a spectacular diving grab to rob Granderson of extra bases.
After making the catch, Revere stayed on the ground for a bit before regrouping and getting to his feet gingerly. He definitely had the wind knocked out of him, but something else got hurt in his extra-base robbing grab.
"Oh yeah," he said, when asked if he had the wind knocked out of him. "And my other part kind of got hurt, too. My manhood kind of got hurt a little bit. They both got hurt a little bit. I got in the cold tub [after the game] to help them out a little bit." [Phillies.com]
Though he's hitting just .143 (4-for-28) this season, Revere has shown improved defense not only with his catch against the Mets, but he also threw out a runner at home on Saturday against the Nationals.
