When Joe Blanton was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on August 3rd, it took most of us off guard. With the trade deadline and rumors of Blanton being traded to Baltimore in the past , it seemed like we would be keeping Big Joe for the remainder of the 2012 season. Wrong. The Dodgers claimed Blanton off waivers and in return the Phillies would receive a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Today it was reported and confirmed that the Phillies have acquired RHP Ryan O'Sullivan from the Dodgers. The 21 year-old was originally drafted in the 10th round of the 2008 draft by the Giants, but decided not to sign. In 2011, O'Sullivan was drafted by the Dodgers in the 4th round of the 2011 draft. Splitting time between A and A+ ball this season, O'Sullivan has appeared in 32 games, starting 12 of them. Posting an 8-6 record while sporting a 3.05 ERA (30 ER in 88 2/3 innings) and a 1.17 WHIP.
O'Sullivan will report to Class-A Clearwater tomorrow.
