It's hard to determine just what rock bottom would be for this Flyers team, but Thursday night's game may have been it.
The Edmonton Oilers scored at will, just as they did in Philadelphia in December, and the Flyers had no answer for it this time.
The Flyers scored three goals for the first time since Feb. 2, but that was hardly enough in a 6-3 loss to the Oilers at Rogers Place.
The Oilers started the scoring early as Matt Hendricks finished a two-on-one by firing a low shot under the pad of Michal Neuvirth just 2:14 in.
Edmonton tallied again late in the first as Matt Benning threw a shot on goal that was deflected in by Leon Draisaitl for his 22nd goal of the season.
The Flyers trailed by two at the end of 20 minutes and in shots, 10-9.
The Flyers got on the board early in the second with a chance to turn the game back in their favor. Sean Couturier threw a centering pass toward the net that hit Andrej Sekera and off Radko Gudas and in just 31 seconds into the period.
But the Oilers dominated the rest of the period, scoring two goals in 1:15. First it was Jordan Eberle jumping on a rebound for his 12th goal of the season and then a long-range shot by Eric Gryba hit Brandon Manning then Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and went in to make it 4-1.
Edmonton piled on with another goal in the final five minutes of the period. Another long shot by Oscar Klefbom beat Neuvirth to make it a 5-1 game.
The Flyers did get back on the board with Wayne Simmonds scoring his 24th goal of the season in the final minute of the period.
The Flyers got a power play as the midway point of the third approached and cashed in to cut the lead to two. A centering pass to the slot by Jake Voracek was tipped in by Brayden Schenn for his 17th of the season at 7:13.
The Flyers were not able to get any closer and Edmonton iced the game for good with McDavid scoring off a turnover to seal the deal.
Cam Talbot made 33 saves to pick up the win, his 29th of the season. Neuvirth stopped 19 shots in the loss.
Forward Jordan Weal left the game with an upper-body injury and did not return.
The Flyers are back on the ice on Sunday night to close out the road trip in Vancouver against the Canucks. Game time is set for 10 p.m.
