Rob Ellis announced his departure from Sportsradio WIP during his final show, last night. About 14 hours later, Ellis followed that up by unveiling a new show on The Comcast Network, "Breakfast on Broad". The show will be hosted by CSN Philly's Sarah Baicker, Ellis, Jillian Mele of NBC 10, and former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Barrett Brooks, who has been doing national work and hosting shows on 97.5 the Fanatic.
Molly Eichel of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the show will differ from the content on Comcast Sports Net.
Breakfast on Broad aims to avoid the straight-news feel of SportsNet Central, the current Comcast SportsNet local morning news show, which will continue to air. The intent of the new program is to favor opinion and discussion, sometimes centering on the softer side of local sports, including what athletes are doing off the field, and what they are saying on Twitter.
The show will run from 6:00 – 8:00 Monday through Friday, giving each of its cast the opportunity to continue other ventures. Hopefully that means for Philadelphia sports fans that Ellis will continue doing sports talk.
