After winning game one of the Eastern League Championship Seires, the Reading Fightin Phils were defeated in game two, 10-3, at the hands of the Bowie Baysox. Reading will have somewhat of an uphill battle as they play the remainder of their games on the road with an unknown pitching situation beyond game four.
For the first time this postseason, Reading didn't score first. Bowie got an RBI-single from Garabez Rosa for a 1-0 lead. The Fightin Phils tied things up in the bottom of the inning though. Nick Williams reached on an error and J.P. Crawford doubled. Andrew Knapp hit an RBI-groundout to plate Williams and even things up at one a piece.
Bowie scored two runs in each the second and the third, three in the fourth and two more in the ninth.
Reading got their other two runs in the fourth and the eighth, courtesy of an Andrew Knapp solo home run and a J.P. Crawford RBI-single.
On the pitching end of things, Ethan Martin was handed the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in just 2 1/3 innings. Joely Rodriguez came on in relief of Martin and surrendered three runs, two earned, in 1 1/3 innings. Hoby Milner and Tom Windle combined to toss 4 1/3 scoreless before Ryan O'Sullivan allowed two runs in the ninth.
J.P. Crawford finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and Andrew Knapp was 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI's.
For Bowie, second baseman Garabez Rosa led the way offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Center fielder Glynn Davis went 1-for-3 with a triple, run scored and three RBI's. Starter Nick Addition moved to 2-0 this postseason after holding Reading to three runs, two earned, over seven innings of work.
With the series now tied at one, things shift to Bowie tonight for game three. First pitch is slated for 6:35pm at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD. Getting the start for Reading is right-hander Jake Thompson. In the division series against Binghamton, Thompson hurled a three-hit shutout to give the Fightin Phils a 2-0 advantage. He'll be opposed by left-hander Chris Lee. In Bowie's division series against Altoona, Lee tossed six innings of two-run ball for the win back on September 11th.
