Gary Matthews, most recently working on the Phillies tv broadcast and judge at Garry Maddox's rib competition will be back to coaching
The Phillies brought back former Phillies Marlon Byrd and Bobby Abreu to their outfield this offseason and built their coaching staff with former Phillies Ryne Sandberg, Larry Bowa, Juan Samuel, and Pete Mackanin, but there is always room room for some more former Phillies. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that five former Phillies will be guest instructors in camp:
Phillies invite 5 alumni as guest instructors to spring training: Larry Andersen, Roy Halladay, Dave Hollins, Brad Lidge and Gary Matthews.

Hollins has worked for many years as a Phillies scout. Halladay will head to camp for the first time as a non-player. Lidge is working as a broadcaster part-time for MLB Network Radio while completing a master's degree in Biblical Archaeology. Andersen has been in the Phillies broadcast booth since 1998, after serving as pitching coach of AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre. Despite being on the Phillies payroll all these years, this is first year serving as an instructor. Matthews, of course, is already also on the Phillies payroll but lost his broadcasting position when Comcast Sports Net wanted him out as part of the new television deal. Matthews was the hitting coach of the Chicago Cubs before joining the Phillies broadcast.
