Tonight Roy Halladay pitched eight innings, allowing only a run on two hits while striking out eight. It seems like The Good Doctor is back.
St. Louis’ only run off Halladay came in the second inning when Carlos Beltran ripped a solo shot, his 28th on the season, to give the Cards a 1-0 lead. The Phillies, however, answered back in the bottom half when Domonic Brown drove in Ryan Howard, who doubled before him, with an RBI single, tying up the game.
Halladay and Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse were intertwined in pitcher's duel until the eighth inning when Barret Browning relieved Lohse. The inning turned out to go wrong for Browning, starting off with a Jimmy Rollins lead-off single, then a BALK. The balk allowed Rollins to move into scoring position before he scored on Utley’s two-run homer from third. It was Utley’s eighth homer of the season and his 196th of his career. It moved him to ninth overall in Phillies history, passing Bobby Abreu on the list.
And Papelbon (25th save of the season) with a scary ninth inning, which also ended on a pick off play at second. Thank you Carlos Beltran.
