Roy Halladay’s Wife: Hall of Fame Election ‘End Result’ of Being Successful ‘Every Single Day’

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Roy Halladay's Tuesday election into the Baseball Hall of Fame Tuesday evening not only touched the hearts of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays family, but also the late eight-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young Award winner's personal family — his wife, Brandy, and two sons, Braden and Ryan.

Halladay's wife and sons represented him during his Phillies Wall of Fame election this past summer, and will do so again this July, as Doc, Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Edgar Martinez, Harold Baines, and Lee Smith will be forever enshrined in Cooperstown, New York.

Brandy said being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame is "every boy's dream," and that standing on the stage and delivering your acceptance speech "in front of baseball's most enthusiastic fans" is something "every baseball player aspires to achieve."

"Roy was no exception. But that was not Roy's goal," Brandy said in a statement following the Hall of Fame announcement. "It was not his goal to have those three letters after his signature. His goal was to be successful every single day of his 16-year career. Tonight's announcement is the end result of that effort."

Brandy said that if only her husband was "here to personally express his gratitude for this honor," the day would be "even more amazing."

"I would like to extend special thanks to the baseball writers for the overwhelming percentage of votes that Roy received in his first year on the ballot," Brandy said. "It means so much to me, Braden and Ryan."
