Just hours after being named one of the 2024 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football captains, it was announced that linebacker Mohamed Toure will miss the 2024 season with an injury. The news was first reported by New Jersey Advanced Media and confirmed by head football coach Greg Schiano.
“Mo’s out for the year. He tore his ACL. So, we are going to get that fixed up and get him back. It’s sad. He put so much work into getting ready for the year. But that’s the game of football unfortunately. There are things like that that happen. As a family, we’ve surrounded him, we are supporting him. We’ll help him through the rehab, we’ll get him back and help him reach his goals and aspirations.”

This is the second ACL injury for the Pleasantville, New Jersey native in the past three seasons. Toure missed all of the 2022 season after tearing his ACL. He returned in 2023 and was named the Comeback Player of the Year semifinalist thanks to a 93 tackle, 9.5 tackle-for-loss, 4.5 sack performance in 2023.
In addition to being named team captain for the second consecutive year, Toure was recently named to the Butkus Award watch list. He could pursue an additional year of eligibility if he wanted, however, the call to the NFL might not be worth the risk.
