Okay, so the "Ron and Ian" show on 96.5 WDAE in Tampa Bay, Florida came up with this latest Phillies trade rumor. The source? A "friend in Philly".
"Phillies and Rays are talking…Ryan Howard and David Price. The Phillies are eating roughly half of Ryan Howard's contract… the Rays want a catching or first base prospect as well".
Ryan Howard, the hosts were saying, could be the designated hitter for the Rays and not worry about first base. The Phillies really do not have a catching/first base prospect other than Tommy Joseph, who could play either position. And still, the Phillies could send the Rays $45 million, Tommy Joseph, and Jesse Biddle, and I'm not sure this gets done.
"He can play another five years, easy" and is a "nice guy" one of the hosts said about Howard.
Thanks to @ColinHumphreys who always seems to find these kinds of things. Again, listen to the radio hosts discuss the idea. Remember: "a friend in Philly" is a trusted source.
