Ryne Sandberg took the Phillies managerial job on an interim basis with no guarantees. Now it sounds that Sandberg will be officially named the manager in the very near future. CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury is reporting that Sandberg will shed the "interim" status soon:
It seems to be a fait accompli that Sandberg will lose the interim tag and be named full-time Phillies manager sometime in the next week or so. An announcement could come before the Phillies close out the season Sept. 29 in Atlanta or shortly thereafter.
Whatever the case, you can bet the kids’ tuition money that Sandberg is the guy.
He even seems to know it.
Sandberg, who celebrated his 54th birthday yesterday, has led the Phillies to a record of 18-14 in his 32 games as a big league manager thus far.
