When the Eagles completed a trade to move from the eighth overall pick to the second overall pick in the NFL Draft, the speculation became closer to reality. The Eagles were now in position to draft a quarterback, one they likely wanted all along.
Despite Howie Roseman saying that he, Doug Pederson and Jeffrey Lurie had spoken to current quarterback Sam Bradford, a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter said that Bradford is "mad" about the trade.
"He’s hot," said one source. "Who wouldn’t be? This is Philly saying, 'We don’t see [you] as long-term answer.' He’s mad and wants to show everyone who’s best."
Bradford signed a two-year, $36 million earlier this offseason, presumably to be the starting quarterback for at least next season. When the Eagles also added Chase Daniel on a three-year deal, the Eagles seemed like they would be going a different direction with the first-round pick, but the possibility remained a rumor until Wednesday when it came to fruition.
Bradford said on Tuesday that he was not concerned about the Eagles drafting a quarterback and not worried about being traded. Roseman stated on Wednesday that the Eagles were not going to trade Bradford.
Bradford passed for 3,725 yards in 14 games last season, throwing 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
The Eagles have scouted almost every quarterback prospect there is in the Draft class, but it focused around Carson Wentz and Jared Goff, one of which is likely to be selected with the second overall pick.
