Nnamdi Asomugha's meteoric fall from his days being considered a top cornerback in the NFL prior to signing with the Eagles in 2011 continued Monday as he was released by the 49ers.
Once upon a time Nnamdi Asomugha was considered a top-five cornerback and the centerpiece of the Philadelphia Eagles "Dream Team" spending spree in July 2011.
Fast forward to November 2013 and Asomugha's NFL future is in significant doubt after being released by the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers will waive Asomugha following their week nine bye week after the cornerback has been repeatedly beaten in both press, man and zone coverage this season.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport San Francisco will officially release Asomugha when they activate veteran Eric Wright.
Asomugha slid down to third on the 49ers cornerback depth chart after posting just three tackles through the team's first eight games.
It will be worth watching to see if a third NFL team takes a gamble on Asomugha since his days as a member of the Oakland Raider and among the top cornerbacks in the league appear to be very long gone.
