Seahawks to Sign Cornerback Cary Williams

After being released by the Eagles last week, cornerback Cary Williams is heading to the opposite side of the country to join the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks. In two seasons with Philadelphia, Williams intercepted five passes.

Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider gives us the details of the contract:

Before being cut by the Eagles, Williams had a base salary of $6.5 million, so he gets a slight bump in pay with the Seahawks as well. This news of Williams going to Seattle comes two days after the Eagles announced they plan to sign former Seahawks cornerback, Byron Maxwell.

Prior to reportedly signing with the Seahawks, Williams had visited the New York Jets, who were very interested in his services, according to a NJ.com source.

In seven NFL seasons, Cary Williams has nine interceptions and one defensive touchdown. He'll be joining an elite secondary in Seattle aside Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman.

According to Pro Football Focus, Williams was ranked 49th among cornerbacks this season and 38th in coverage. In his first year with the Eagles, he was rated 80th overall among corners.
