The Flyers sent Sean Couturier back to Philadelphia for further evaluation after suffering a lower-body injury, reportedly an MCL sprain in his left knee, in the second period of Tuesday's win over Florida.
Couturier will be out for four-to-six week with injury, GM Ron Hextall announced on Wednesday.
Couturier was moved to injured reserve on Wednesday morning, allowing room on the roster for Scott Laughton to be called up from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Laughton has two goals and six assists for eight points in eight games with the Phantoms. Laughton did not start the season with the Flyers after suffering an injury during camp.
Couturier has five goals and eight points on the season. Prior to Tuesday's game, Couturier had four points in his last six games.
By being moved to IR and not long-term IR, Couturier is eligible to return after a week, but will need more extensive recovery time.
