Eagles' head coach Doug Pederson announced today that preseason hero Paul Turner will travel to Seattle with the team in case top receiver Jordan Matthews (back spasms) is unable to suit up on Sunday.
"We're gonna bring Paul Turner, just in case," Pederson said. "We're going for two days, and we just wanna make sure that nothing goes array in the next couple of days, and [if so], then we have a backup plan."
Matthews and Zach Ertz (hamstring) are listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC battle. Ertz's injury is described as hamstring tightness which occurred in Wednesday's practice, while Matthews' sustained his injury in the weight room.
"[Matthews' back spasms] come from time to time," Pederson said. "Obviously this one happened in the weight room on Tuesday actually. [Held out] precautionary on Wednesday, made sure he had plenty of rest and is ready to go for Sunday."
Rain is expected at Qwest Field on Sunday afternoon, which could play to the Eagles' advantage given the injuries to their leading pass catchers, and the fact that they're severely outmatched by Seattle's secondary.
"It should rain consistently throughout the day," Pederson said. "We can't let it be a distraction for us, we just gotta go play. I think it'll be our first weather game this year. It'll be great for us to play in something like this, for Carson [Wentz] to play in it, on the road. But unless it's real windy and rainy, we won't change anything with the game plan."
The first-year head coach also noted that the Eagles have agreed to three-year contract extensions with long snapper Jon Dorenbos and safety Chris Maragos.
