Phillies fans will be disappointed next week when the Phillies take on the Boston Red Sox. Former Phillies outfielder and current member of the Red Sox Shane Victorino has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring. The depleted Red Sox are now without third baseman Will Middlebrooks, Victorino, and closer Joel Hanrahan as the Phillies head to Boston on Monday.
Victorino had been looking forward to his visit to Philly. In fact, in just yesterday's Daily News Victorino expressed his excitement:
"I'm definitely excited," Victorino said this week during Boston's series against the White Sox. "I spent eight seasons there – pretty much the life of who I am as a baseball player and who I became. It will always have a special place in my heart and I'll never forget it."
As of the publication of that piece, Victorino was expected to be ready to play prior to the Phillies series.
Many Phillies fans were equally excited to see their old friend. It is unclear if Victorino will make the trip. It is just a two -game series in Philadelphia Wednesday and Thursday, and maybe the Red Sox will prefer Victorino forego that travel to heal. My guess is Victorino will prefer to make the trip.
