The 76ers' summer squad is in Orlando this week with nine other teams as a part of this year's Orlando Pro Summer League. The Sixers' roster for the Summer League can be seen here. Prior to the start of the Summer League, many people believed that the Sixers had one of the most talented rosters out of all ten teams. Despite having this "talented" roster, the Sixers have failed to gain a win in either of their first two games this summer. Here's a recap of both games:
GAME 1: Rockets 88 76ers 80
The score of this game does not tell the whole story. The Sixers never led once in the game, and the Rockets completely controlled the tempo throughout. Terrence Jones was on fire for Houston, as he notched 24 points on 9-13 shooting. For the Sixers, first-round selection Michael Carter-Williams led all scorers with 26. He also showed great versatility and athletic ability as he posted 8 assists to go along with 7 rebounds. Carter-Williams' stat line is very promising, but he also coughed the ball up 9 times, a number that has to go down if he is going to be the starting point guard for this team. In his defense, coach Michael Curry credited at least 4 of those turnovers to fatigue. Still, it worries me. Besides Carter-Williams, there was no other player on the Sixers' roster who played better than mediocre.
GAME 2: Pacers 96 76ers 75
The Sixers kept it close in the first half, as they were only down by 4 at halftime, but after that it was all Pacers. Michael Carter-Williams followed up a promising first game with another nice performance. The rookie scored 13 points, but he was 4-20 from the field. He also put up 7 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Temple alum and Norristown native, Khalif Wyatt, was a surprising bright spot for the team. After putting up just 9 points on 4-15 shooting in their game against Houston, Wyatt exploded for 25 points on an impressive 11-18 from the field. He was a bit reckless with the ball though, as he turned it over 5 times in the game, but his ability to score the ball may just land him a spot on the Sixers' final roster. Originally, Wyatt was supposed to leave the Sixers and join the Mavericks in Las Vegas. However, the Sixers have asked Wyatt to stay and he agreed.
