Sixers rally from big deficit, fall short

Despite trailing by 21 points late in the game, Philadelphia had a chance to tie the game with a pair of free throws with 65 seconds remaining. Going to the line was the hero from last night, rookie Michael Carter-Williams.

But, on par with the season, he missed the first shot—one of two misses in the final two minutes, and after getting within a point they would never get closer. Mirza Teletovic hit a three on the other end of the floor, and Brooklyn gave the 76ers their 23rd loss at home in 25 games in 2014, 105-101.

On Fan Appreciation Night, the game started off much like the Sixers’ last home game against a playoff-bound opponent, when they trailed Charlotte 63-38 at halftime. The Nets led 57-42 at the intermission, as Kevin Garnett made his return to the Nets lineup.

Brett Brown, who thanked the fans for their support before the game, was not pleased with the effort his team was giving their fans on the promotional night. In fact, his pep talk at halftime included how uninspiring their play was on the night they were supposed to show appreciation.

Via Jason Wolfe, Brown said, "It's fan appreciation night and part of our halftime speech was 'Why would they appreciate this?'"

It took a while, but the team eventually responded. After falling behind further, the team rallied for a 49-26 run to make it a one point game after Carter-Williams hit one of two at the line.

Thaddeus Young had another solid game for the Sixers, leading all scorers with 20 points. Henry Simms added a double- double with 11 points and rebounds. Six Sixers reached double figures, as did six scorers from Brooklyn as the teams were rather balanced.

Though the Sixers have one more home game remaining, they probably gave the fans exactly what they wanted on Fan Appreciation day—at least those rooting for the tank. A hard-fought effort in the end, and entertaining game, and they helped their cause to get as many ping pong balls as possible.
