After getting just eight minutes of playing time on Friday against the Lakers, center Nerlens Noel voiced his displeasure, saying the team needs to "figure this sh–" out. Brett Brown and Noel discussed the situation on Saturday at practice, but prior to Sunday's game against the Nets, Brown told reporters that Noel was not going to be a part of the regular tonight and it could stay this way for a while.
"I think trying to force feed three bigs in a game is unfair," Brown said Sunday before the Sixers faced the Nets. "I intend on going with two of those three bigs tonight. Nerlens will not be one of those people that will be in rotation unless something happens with foul trouble or some type of other circumstance."
"I assume that we're going to stick with this rotation for a while. It could end up Nerlens, what I've just said to you I've to Nerlens, and we'll have a conversation of what it looks like when we come back in a few days against New Orleans (on Tuesday)." [CSNPhilly.com]
Brown mentioned that the decision to sit Noel has nothing to do with his comments following the loss to the Lakers. With Nerlens seemingly unhappy and the front office remaining silent, something has to change for this situation to get better, because its boiled over and then some. Noel believes that this decision to remove him from the picture was decided well before he made his debut.
"I think this has been decided a long time ago. I think it had nothing to do with it," Noel said. "It’s been something that’s been set in stone. That’s why I’ve been staying very content and just focused on bettering myself and worrying about the things I can control. You’ve just got to prepare yourself for things like these and take it one step at a time." [CSNPhilly.com]
After Sunday's victory against Brooklyn, Brown was asked whether or not Noel was given enough of a chance to earn a spot in the rotation since returning and he responded by mentioning that he feels worse for Richaun Holmes, who has been with the team since the beginning of the season.
"Nerlens missed everything. 20 minutes before the game last week, I learned he was going to play. He hasn't been a part of us. I think this conversation goes to a higher level, a more real level in a few weeks, when he's actually had some practices. Richaun's been here since day one. I feel that is something that's on my mind as much as Nerlens."
The Sixers are back in action on Tuesday, when the Pelicans come to town.
