The Philadelphia 76ers don’t seem anywhere close to dealing one of their centers, but according to Sean Deveney of The Sporting News, the Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in center Nerlens Noel. With the lack of picks and tradeable assets though, a deal seems very unlikely.
Here’s the excerpt from the article regarding the Lakers and Noel:
The Lakers have inserted themselves on trade talks this season and will continue to do so. They had talks with Atlanta about Paul Millsap and expressed interest in Nerlens Noel, if the Sixers decide to go ahead with a deal for him. But the best asset the Lakers can put forth is a future draft pick, probably not until 2021 depending on how the lottery plays out this May. That’s going to limit their activity on the market, and there is a chance they could even be a seller with a veteran such as Luol Deng.
Los Angeles would need to get creative to get a deal done for Noel, especially since they won’t part ways with any of their young player core that includes D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle and Brandon Ingram. They also don’t have first round picks to offer. They’ll send a first either this year or next to the 76ers and their 2019 pick goes to Orlando as part of the Dwight Howard trade, so the Lakers wouldn’t have a tradeable first rounder until 2021.
While the Sixers might be eager to find a solution to their big man surplus, a deal with Los Angeles would be rather surprising considering the lack of assets they have to offer in a trade.
