The Philadephia 76ers made a depth signing on Wednesday morning as they brought James Michael McAdoo on to their roster via a two-way contract. This is the first two-way deal given out by the Sixers in their franchise's history.
The deal was initially announced on Saturday, but was not announced to be official until Wednesday.
In addition to the NBA's 15-man roster, the league has added two, two-way roster spots on every roster that allows teams to call up and send down players to-and-from their NBA G-League team. Prior to Wednesday's signing, the Sixers were one of only two teams — the Cavaliers being the other — that had not signed anybody to one of these special contracts.
McAdoo, who's father Ronnie is former NBA player Bob McAdoo's second cousin, has played three professional seasons, all with the Golden State Warriors. Undrafted after playing three seasons at the University of North Carolina, McAdoo has been riding the bench over the course of his tenure in Oakland.
In his three seasons in the Association, the 6-foot-9 small forward has played in 108 games, averaging 7.9 MPG, 3 PPG, 1.7 RPG and a .535 FG%.
A solid slasher, McAdoo, 24, has a lot of work to do with his jump shot. He will be nothing more than an energy player off the bench for the Sixers and will likely get some minutes with the Deleware 87ers as well.
All in all, the Sixers took a flier on a young player who has been around very good teams throughout college and the pros. You can't go wrong with that when you're looking at the 16th man on your bench.
