The Philadelphia 76ers begin Summer League play tonight against the Celtics at 7PM on Comcast Sportsnet. Fans and coaches will get a first glimpse of No.1 overall pick Ben Simmons in game action for the team. No.24 overall pick Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is also expected to play, but Simmons is the main attraction for many here as the Sixers open their Summer League schedule in Utah.
As the offseason progresses and the season grows nearer, Simmons will match up with a majority of the rookies drafted in 2016, but the LSU product isn't worried about facing his draft classmates. He's staying focused on bigger names.
"Going into the NBA, I'm not looking at rookies or anything like that," Simmons told Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I'm looking at the top guys like LeBron and KD. Those are the guys I'll be facing, so I need to be ready for them. I respect everyone, but you know, I don't fear anyone."
One of the big focuses for Simmons and his spectators will be his mid-range shot. Coming into the draft, the one aspect of his game that was scrutinized was his shooting. In college, the majority of his shots were taking within 4-7 feet of the basket. He's already been working to improve his long-range game, getting in plenty of three-point shots in his first day of practice for the Summer League.

Simmons, the No.1 overall pick, will make $5.9 million this season. He averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this past season with LSU. Simmons shot 56 percent from the floor, mainly with shots in the post and dunks. He became the first college player since Ron Harper in 1988 to average 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in college.
