Last week, we noted that Philadelphia would workout Emmanuel Mudiay, the point guard prospect who spent a season in China. Today, more details emerged about the workout, as well as a meeting that is scheduled to precede it.
According to SNY.TV’s Adam Zagoria, the Sixers will not only workout the 19 year-old, but will also dine with him the day before the workout, with those two event scheduled for June 15 and 16, respectively.

That’s a lot of time spent on a prospect, and for good reason, as the team looks to do its due diligence on any candidate for the No. 3 selection. However, there could be more to these appointments. Jake Pavorsky of Liberty Ballers is reporting that the team is “intrigued” by him.
“While many 76ers fans have set their sights on Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell with the third overall pick, it may not be a one horse race for Philadelphia's first round selection. Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie is intrigued by former Guangdong Southern Tigers point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, a source told Liberty Ballers.”
Russell certainly is the consensus favorite to land in Philadelphia, based on the mock drafts. However, Pavorsky also notes in the same piece that any scheduled workouts or meetings with Russell, if there are any, are currently unknown. It was pointed out last month that Hinkie was the only GM to travel to China and watch Mudiay.
Due to an injury, Mudiay only played 12 games in China. In those games, he averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Mudiay is said to be a good passer and has high upside on the defensive end.
The draft takes place June 25, leaving nine days after the workout for the Sixers to decide if Mudiay is their best option at No. 3.
