Sixers visit former teammate JaKarr Sampson, Nuggets in Denver

By: Brandon Apter, managing editor

Two nights after shooting just over 35 percent from the floor, the Philadelphia 76ers (9-62) are in Denver for game two of their four-game road trip against the Nuggets (29-42). The two teams met back on the 5th of December in Philadelphia, with the Nuggets erasing a late 11-point deficit to steal a 108-105 win.

The Sixers are coming off of a 75-point performance against the Pacers on Monday night, a game in which no player scored more than 15 points. Philadelphia failed to tie things up at any point after the first three and a half minutes, never had a lead and also never made the game a one possession game during 42.5 minutes of this one. The loss on Monday was the Sixers' sixth in a row and 19th loss in their last 20 games. The closest Philadelphia got to the Pacers in this one later in the game was with 7:06 to go in the third. Isaiah Canaan hit a three to make it a 55-53 game, but Indiana scored eight straight points and pulled away in the final quarter. Both Canaan and Hollis Thompson scored 15 points while Jerami Grant tallied 14. Nerlens Noel finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

Denver has lost four of their last five games, most recently coming against Cleveland on Monday by a score of 124-91. LeBron James posted a triple-double en route to a Cavs victory, their 50th of the 2015-16 campaign. Will Barton led Nuggets scorers with 27 points as Denver concluded a five-game road trip 1-4. Former Sixer JaKarr Sampson strained his shoulder in the first half a did not return.

Game Notes:

  • If the Sixers lose 11 more games this season, they will match the 1972-73 Philadelphia team for the worst record over an 82-game NBA season.
  • The Niggets have scored 114.5 points per game over their last four home games, all of which have been wins.
  • Philadelphia has won four of their last five games in Denver.
  • Richaun Holmes (Achillies strain) and Robert Covington (concussion) will return to the Sixers lineup after missing time with their respective injuries.
  • Denver will be without leading-scorer Danilo Gallinari, who has two torn ligaments in his ankle. Kenneth Faried, who's been dealing with nagging back issues, will be a game time decision and Jameer Nelson has missed time since January with a sprained wrist.
  • Former Sixer JaKarr Sampson has started in 12 out of 15 games since joining the Nuggets. He's averaging 4.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Sampson played 121 for the Sixers over parts of two seasons. Before being traded this year, he was averaging just 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, but was very active defensively.
