Source: Eagles, Jets Will Make a Trade if Mariota Falls in Draft

The rumors of Chip Kelly being reunited with QB Marcus Mariota have been ongoing for months now. The Eagles have parted ways with Todd Herremans, Trent Cole and LeSean McCoy in the past week or so and a Jeremy Maclin decision is expected by March 10th, when he can become a free agent.

While Nick Foles may be ready to lead this team in the coming year, Kristian Dyer of Metro Sports reports that if Marcus Mariota falls to the number six spot occupied by the Jets, the two teams will make a trade sending the Oregon quarterback to Philadelphia.

If Marcus Mariota is available at No. 6 in next month's NFL Draft, he likely will be taken. But a league source said the Jets, in desperate need for a quarterback, won't be selecting the former Oregon QB there and that the Eagles and Jets would make a trade if the scenario plays out.

The source said with “100 percent certainty” that if Mariota is available at No. 6 it will be the Eagles, and not the Jets, who will be picking at that spot.

Though it seems unlikely Mariota drops that far, the source mentioned in Dyer's column that the Eagles "would make that move and pay that price".

It may seem unwise to risk the future on Marcus Mariota, but with Chip Kelly's recent moves, not much would surprise Eagles fans at this point. RGIII may not have worked out very well for the Redskins, but Mariota could possibly be the next superstar quarterback.

The 2015 NFL draft kicks off on April 30th at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago.
