Steelers sign ex-Eagles quarterback Michael Vick to one-year deal

Update 8:20 pm: According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers have signed FA QB Michael Vick to a one-year deal. Bruce Gradkowski has been placed on the injured reserve list.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, 12-year veteran quarterback Michael Vick is headed to Pittsburgh to meet with the Steelers on Tuesday, his first visit of free agency.

Schefter cites that one reason the Steelers might be interested in signing the 35-year-old, four-time Pro Bowler is that backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski dislocated his left finger Sunday in the Steelers' third preseason game.

Gradkowski is reportedly having surgery today and there is no timetable for his return.

Vick, 35, has a 56.1 career completion percentage over 3,151 attempts. Spanning five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, he had a quarterback record of 20-20-0, .500, throwing 57 touchdowns and 33 interceptions over 54 games and 42 starts under center.

Having a reliable backup to the often-injured Ben Roethlisberger would be ideal for Pittsburgh as they seek to seventh Super Bowl championship in franchise history this season.
